Ávila Parques car park, located in Porto, wanted to develop a new relationship with its users. It had never undergone any changes since it opened, so it was looking for a revamp.
With this goal in mind, the challenge was to make navigating the space a more intuitive, pleasant and attractive experience.
The solution was based on the point, whose circular shape guaranteed the necessary elasticity for the signage, both in terms of textual and visual information.
The point as a concept for orientation in space was therefore fundamental, since the information developed was always based on this term, such as ‘point of entry’ and ‘point of arrival’.
Visually, the arrival and departure zones for cars, the places where pedestrians enter and exit and the payment zones are signalled by the circles that expand along the walls of the space, as references that guide users.
Signage patterns and fluid strokes enrich the environment and, combined with the demarcation of parking areas by colour (red, blue and green), guarantee clear and efficient assistance for pedestrian and vehicle navigation.
We also invited artist Vanessa Teodoro to collaborate on the graphic design. The dynamic graphics she created fit in perfectly with the concept of the car park, reflecting the movements of the cars as they park. They also inspired more rectilinear signage that contrasts with, but also complements, the circular shapes.
The union of the circle and Vanessa Teodoro’s line has resulted in a space that is modern, functional and full of movement.
Ávila Parques has thus become a reference in the sector by setting a new standard for car parks, exploring the harmonious fusion of art, security, comfort and mobility.
